"Kyosikthonggwe," astronomical heritage of Korean nation

From olden times, the Korean nation has made signal successes in the astronomical field, contributing to the development of the Eastern Culture.

It is well evidenced by "Kyosikthonggwe", an astronomical book on the system of calculating solar eclipse and lunar eclipse.

This printed book in one volume was published in 1444.

The first part of the book tells about the method of calculating the solar eclipse and the second part introduces the theory on it. And the last part deals with the method of calculating lunar eclipse.

The method of predicting solar and lunar eclipses were applied until 1652.

"Kyosikthonggwe" showing Korea's astronomical development in the 15th century is a precious heritage of the nation.
